WHITEFIELD — The WMRHS boys' soccer team hosted Berlin for homecoming on Sept. 18 and the visitors walked away with a 3-1 win.

The game began with Berlin in possession, however the Spartans quickly gained control. Five minutes into the game, Berlin had an opportunity to score but missed the chance. The game was an even match until Berlin's Carter Poulin found the net with the assist coming from Jason Sweatt.

Griffin Melanson of Berlin took a shot on goal but it was stopped short by the Spartan defense. The Spartans continued to make smooth passes but could not find the net. Ethan Heng sent the ball over to Elijah Beaulieu to clear a Berlin rally.

With 31 minutes on the clock, Berlin sent the ball in front of the Spartan goal but could not convert. The Spartans kept the pressure on Berlin keeper Haden Poulin, who made two great saves, one right after another.

Melanson took another shot on goal for Berlin, but Spartan keeper Keigan George jumped to capture the ball. Midway through the first half, Berlin's Jamison Walsh took a nice shot on goal but was just outside of the post. Spartan Eli Percey made a goal kick, and a volley between the two teams continued.

Spartan Brody LaBounty crossed the ball over to Justin Valdez, but the Berlin defense stopped the shot. Luck would change for the Spartans after a Percey free kick. The kick was sent towards LaBounty, then over to Kieran Tobin, who made a nice right foot blast to tie the game 1-1 with 15 minutes to go in the first half. LaBounty took a nice shot on goal shortly after, but was unlucky after it hit the post.

In the second half, Berlin's Ben Estrella scored on a header from a rebound. The score was 2-1, Berlin with 21 minutes to go. Berlin continued to take shots on goal but George was there with the saves. With 10 minutes left, Estrella scored the final goal of the game, scoring off of a deflection. The final score was 3-1, Berlin.
