WHITEFIELD — The Spartan field hockey team suffered two losses to the Berlin Mountaineers in recent games. On Oct. 1, White Mountains lost 4-0.

The Spartans gave up three goals in thethir d quarter. Coach Jeannine LaBounty said, "We spent a good portion of the first quarter in Berlin's defensive end, but Berlin opened the scoring with three minutes left in the first quarter with a goal by Cienna Langlois. There were some good runs by the offensive line."

The second quarter had both teams scoreless. Berlin scored 30 seconds into the third on a goal by Becca Pouliot. Pouliot and Langlois each scored once more in the third. LaBounty said that keeper Jen Fowler came up with some big saves in the fourth quarter.

On Oct. 9, the teams faced off again, this time with the score a bit closer. The Spartans could not get the revenge needed and lost 2-0.

Berlin's Kelly McCormick scored in the first quarter with 12:50 on the clock unassisted. Langlois scored one more for Berlin one minute into the third quarter.

Fowler made 23 saves for the game, and according to LaBounty, played outstanding.

"Abby Friedman controlled the field well and Olivia Baker had a couple of big stops including stopping Berlin's Cienna Langlois from a one on one," said LaBounty.

She added, "We didn't take a single shot. It's hard to win if you don't take shots at goal."
