Gorham athletes honored for fine spring seasons

GORHAM A sports awards ceremony was held at the Gorham Middle High School cafeteria on Monday, June 5. The 2017 NHIAA Division IV varsity baseball and softball athletes were recognized for their accomplishments. Gorham Athletic Director William Goodrich also announced this year's spring sports All Conference and All State selections.

For boys' varsity baseball, three athletes were recognized and given awards. Sam Sjostrom was the Most Valuable Player as well as the Offensive Player of the Year. Hunter Desilets was the Most Improved Player of the Year. Kyle Berwick was the Defensive Player of the Year and he also received the Coach's Award.

For girls' varsity softball, seven athletes received awards. Natalie Harmon was the Most Valuable Player. Delaney Holmes received the Coach's Award. Felicia Voisine was the Most Improved Player. Karyssa Lachance was handed the Hustle Award. Maddie Rivard received the First Year Standout Award. Lauren Gralenski was the Offensive Player of the Year and Jacqui Hallisey was the Defensive Player of the Year.

The three-sport athletes were recognized by the NHIAA for competing in three sports all four years of their high school careers. These athletes are Harmon, Voisine, Gralenski, Hallisey, Jana Oelofse and Emma Schoenbeck.

All Conference as well as All State selections were announced as followed:

For softball, Gralenski, Hallisey and Harmon were chosen for Granite State North Team. Harmon was named Conference Player of the Year.

The New Hampshire Softball Coaches Association chose Harmon and Hallisey for First Team All-State. Gralenski was chosen for Second Team.

Gorham softball head coach Chris Partenope was recognized as Coach of the Year.

For varsity baseball, Sjostrom was selected for Baseball Granite State North Team. The New Hampshire Baseball Coaches Association hand-picked Sjostrom for Second Team and Desilets for Third Team.
