BERLIN – Trails are open and with ATV/OHRV season in full swing, riders can enjoy a number of upcoming summer events this year presented by the Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The Bureau of Trails, OHRV Club and many other clubs have worked and maintained the trails and have added adequate signage. The clubs and the Chamber urge respectful, responsible riding and to follow the rules and guidelines which can be found by visiting online at www.ride.nh.gov.

"The Chamber is looking forward to a safe riding season in our area," said Paula Kinney of the Chamber. "Many rules and regulations have been put into place for everyone's safety. Whether you are a rider or not, respect the trails, landowners and each other so we can all have some fun out there."

Some trails are still wet, and one at Jericho Mountain State Park is off limits, but according to the Bureau of Trails, most trails are open.

Riders are allowed on certain municipal roads to access businesses, restaurants and trails.

Jericho Mountain offers more than 1,000 interconnected OHRV trails as well as hiking and biking trails. The campground is in full effect and Jericho Lake is great for swimming, fishing and kayaking. There are some hiking and biking trails as well as some off road 4x4 trails.

The Redneck Poker Run sponsored by Jericho Outdoors on Route 110 kicked off OHRV season this Memorial Day weekend. Hundreds of ATV riders, dirt bikes, motorcycles, trucks, cars and bicyclers gathered and participated in the poker run.

The annual Jericho ATV Fest is scheduled for Aug. 4 and 5. Thousands of riders come from all over the country to enjoy the many activities including demo rides, mud races and grudge matches, helicopter rides, promotional packages, raffles and many giveaways and all kinds of riding. The festival provides plenty of food vendors, live music and family-friendly fun. A downtown block party on Main Street is held in the later hours.

Wingzilla, held at the Service Credit Union Service Heritage Park, has become a local favorite and is very popular. It is scheduled for Sept. 19. Competitors cook up their own batches of chicken wings and the public samples them and vote for peoples choice awards. Judges decide the winners. There is live music, a beer tent, other food vendors, and wing eating contests. It is also family-friendly. The event is OHRV friendly and there is a Luau ATV Poker Run connected to Wingzilla.

Polaris Camp RZR came to the East Coast and chose Berlin last year for it's annual event that expects to bring 10,000 attendees each year. It was very successful last year so Polaris decided to come back this year. It is scheduled for Sept. 22 and 23. There will be plenty of OHRV activities, entertainment, demo rides, games, prizes, raffles and giveaways, food, simulators, and much, much more. Live music will be provided by a national act which is to-be-announced. Last year, national recording artist Big N Rich performed.

RiverFire has become of of the biggest events in the North Country. It is scheduled for October 14.The annual extravaganza has something for everybody for all ages. There is a Zombie ATV Poker Run, food, live music, hot-air balloon rides, bouncy houses, face painting, petting zoo, pumpkin carving, lighting of jack-o-lanterns on the green walking bridge, and the main event is the mesmerizing sight of the historical boom piers on the river that are set aflame.

New this year, the Chamber created an interactive game – "Where's Wheeler."

"Help us find Wheeler," insisted Kinney.

Throughout the riding season, a six foot cutout "Wheeler" will be placed in random places on the trails as well as in local establishments. Hits of his whereabouts will be posted on the Chamber's and Jericho ATV Fest Facebook pages. Anyone who spots Wheeler can take a selfie with him and post it on the Jericho ATV Fest Facebook page with the hashtag #whereswheeler. Anyone who does so can become eligible for prizes. Drawings will be held monthly and random people who posted with pictures of Wheeler will be picked.
