BERLIN – In the last Mountaineer regular season game, the Berlin girls' soccer team made the final score 1-0 in the last four minutes of play in the game.

Berlin, in seventh place, finished with a record of nine wins, five losses and two ties. The White Mountains Regional Spartans, in 14th, have a record of 5-10-1. Preliminary games are to-be-announced (after deadline Monday), and the Mounties eliminated the Spartans with the win.

In the first half, in was quite back-and-forth with each team trading the ball. Mountie Summer Bradley had a nice attempt on the net at 29:35 and so did Kailey Price at 18:45 left. Both teams were getting shots on goal later on. Berlin was playing good defense, deflecting the ball away from the net while the Spartans were getting within the zone and taking shots. Berlin failed on a corner opportunity in the last seconds.

In the start of the second half, the Spartans had some shot opportunities but didn't benefit. The visitors at Gaydo Field were getting possession more often while Berlin would get the ball back briefly. Berlin stepped it up a little towards the final 15 minutes of the game and took some shots, including at 9:25 left when Spartan goalie Lydia Beaulieu dove to the ground and a leftover shot was fired but missed. It was mostly an even battle of possession.

Berlin secured the game at 3:18 left when Price passed to Kaylee Peare, who kicked a left-footer from 18 yards – the ball went over the goalie's head into the net for the final 1-0 score.

"The girls worked hard during the last 15 minutes," said Berlin coach Mike Poulin. "We had a few opportunities early on."

Berlin had 21 shots on goal, two corner kicks, two direct kicks, two indirect kicks and goalkeeper Rylie Binnette had 19 saves. White Mountains Regional had 18 shots on goal, two corner kicks, six direct kicks, two indirect kicks and goalkeeper Beaulieu had 13 saves.

Berlin boys' varsity soccer lost to Gilford 3-0 on Friday in their final regular season game. Berlin had one shot on goal, one corner kick, one direct kick and five saves. Gilford had 10 shots on goal, three corner kicks, three direct kicks, five indirect kicks and no saves.
