June 18, 2014BERLIN — The initial American Correctional Association Accreditation Audit was conducted at Federal Correctional Institution-FCI Berlin over a four-day period — Tuesday, May 13, through Friday, May 16 — and the auditor made a preliminary recommendation that the facility receive ACA Accreditation, a prison spokesperson recently reported.
The Commission on Accreditation for Corrections will consider this positive recommendation and a final decision will likely be rendered by late August.
"We currently have 270 staff on board with a combined population — in medium- and minimum-security level facilities — of approximately (male) 1,030 inmates," the spokesperson added.
The facility was built to hold 1,152 medium-security inmates and 128 minimum-security inmates when at full capacity.
"We are continuing to recruit for a variety of positions, including correctional officers, healthcare providers, nurses, staff psychologists, drug treatment specialists and case managers as well as dental officer, cook supervisor, and electronics technician," the spokesperson added.
"A job fair will be held at the FCI Berlin Staff Training Center at 1 Success Loop Road over a three-day period: from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 1; from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 2; and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 3.
