April 03, 2013BERLIN — A specialty sandwich shop that features the cheese sandwiches almost everyone enjoyed as a child opened at 2 Main Street on March 21, the first day of spring.
Co-owners Cheryl Fenwick and Dan Millet have teamed up to open MOM'z Grilled Cheese next to the shuttered Princess Theater.
Its kitchen is outfitted with four grilles.
"We were able to easily fill an order for 16 grilled sandwiches placed by federal prison employees," explained Fenwick, a native of Fitchburg, Mass.
Millet is best known for his one-man business — iPod Fix It — in which he repairs all things electronic that often require a house call.
MOM'z offers seven different grilled cheese sandwiches — plain cheese, bacon, tuna, buffalo chicken, BBQ chicken, pesto, and Spam — plus two without cheese — peanut butter and jelly grilled and peanut butter & bacon.
The small spotless shop also offers five kinds of S'mores in which the marshmallows are cooked over flame: plain; Heath toffee bits; peanut butter chip, Andes mint pieces; and coconut.
Its chocolate moose balls fall into the delicious novelty category.
The shop — easily identifiable by its jaunty red awning across from the staid-looking Northway Bank building — is open from 11 to 3 on Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 to 7 on Friday and Saturday. Orders can be placed at 326-3555. MOM'z website is: www.momzgc.com
