About 160 inmates at FCI-Berlin; 221 staff members employed

BERLIN — The medium-security-level facility at the Federal Correctional Institution-Berlin now houses approximately 80 male inmates, according to the facility's point person. At this time the adjacent minimum-security Satellite Prison Camp also houses approximately 80 inmates, bringing the combined total to some 160 inmates.

There are 221 staff members employed at FCI-Berlin.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons, an agency of the U. S. Department of Justice, operates the facility.

When at capacity, FCI-Berlin will house approximately 1,152 medium-security and 128 minimum-security adult male offenders.

At that point, FCI-Berlin is expected to contribute $40 million annually to the local and regional economy, with some 80 percent spent locally on salaries, goods, services, and utilities.
