October 17, 2012
BERLIN The ninth annual RiverFire will be held October 20, this Saturday, at The Northern Forest Heritage Park on 942 Main St., and a few new attractions have been added to the event.

The popular event is filled with activities for all ages. Some new attractions added this year include a beer tent, a Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, Jail n' Bail, and music with karaoke. The gates open at 1 p.m. and the event will run until 10 p.m.. There is no admission fee into the park but each attraction has separate fees.

The fires on the boom-piers of the Androscoggin River will be lit at dusk, as well as the pumpkins on the walking bridge which is located on Main St. across from Brown School. "We have been working really hard to keep the fires burning," Said Paula Kinney, event coordinator.

RiverFire was voted "Best in NH" by New Hampshire Magazine and Kinney said, "RiverFire burns bigger and brighter every year."

Some other activities include a duck race, hay rides, Bobo T. Clown, hot air balloon rides, children's Halloween costume parade, and the very popular Horrorfest which was added three years ago and has been one of the highlights of the event.

Anyone who wishes to carve a pumpkin for the walking bridge can pick up a free pumpkin at the office of Androscoggin Valley Chamber of Commerce on 961 Main Street.

RiverFire is presented by Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce, Berlin Main Street Program, Northern Forest Heritage Park, and Theater North.

"It takes all of us to make it happen, and the community has been very supportive," said Kinney. "We also want to thank our sponsors for helping to make this event possible," she continued.

"I love the collaboration between all the non-profits that are coming together to make this one awesome event, "said Laura Jamison, coordinator of Horrorfest.

The sponsors for the event include Better Buildings, AutoNorth, Couture Construction, Northway Bank, Brookfield Power, Chapman Container, Bank of NH, Great North Woods Container Services, Personal Touch Home Health Services, Remax, Aerial Site Communications, and Guardian Angel Credit Union.
