FARMINGTON — The Suncook Valley 12U team proved to be the class of the field during the first weekend of action in the District Eight tournament in Farmington.

Suncook Valley won all four of its games over the weekend to get the tournament off to a great start.

On Saturday, Suncook opened with a 9-4 win over Mount Washington Valley and continued with a 10-3 win over Carroll County.

On Sunday, things got started with a game against Plymouth. Devin Bedell got the start on the hill for Suncook and got through the first inning with a little help from his defense in the shape of a double play.

Suncook then got on the board quickly in the bottom of the first. Bedell led off with a double and after a walk to Nolan Sykes a base hit from Jeff Wagner plated the first run. Ryker Burke worked a walk to load the bases and Chris Daniels was hit by a pitch to force in the second run. Calvin Michael followed with a sacrifice fly to center to plate the third run. Nate Cassidy walked, but Suncook couldn't get any more runs home.

Plymouth got the leadoff man on in the second, but Bedell got three grounders to get out of the inning. Suncook was unable to do anything in the bottom of the inning and Bedell worked around two hits in the top of the third to keep things at 3-0.

However, Suncook was able to plate four more runs in the bottom of the third inning. After Burke led off with a double, a one-out hit from Michael put runners on the corners and a Cassidy double plated one run. Josh Planchet walked to load the bases and a base hit from Hayden Drew drove in two runners for a 6-0 lead. A groundout from Bedell plated another and Suncook led 7-0.

Plymouth came back and scored once in the top of the fourth inning and then held Suncook scoreless in the bottom of the fourth. Plymouth added another run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 7-2, but Suncook bounced back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs of their own.

Planchet led off with an infield hit and moved up on a groundout by Ryan Dube. A wild pitch allowed him to score and after a Sykes base hit, a base hit from Wagner plated the ninth run for a 9-2 lead for Suncook heading to the sixth inning.

Bedell worked around an error and a walk in the top of the sixth inning and Suncook emerged with the 9-2 win.

Suncook continued play on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Kingswood to move to 4-0 on the tournament after the first weekend of play. In that game, Wagner clubbed a homer to pace the offense.

Suncook Valley had one more round robin game scheduled, after deadline Tuesday against Farmington.

The Suncook Valley roster includes Devin Bedell, Nolan Sykes, Jeff Wagner, Ryker Burke, Chris Daniels, Ryan Dube, Calvin Michael, Cody Willette, Brennan Lavigne, Hayden Drew, Nate Cassidy and Josh Planchet. The team is coached by Tom Drew, Chip Wagner and Ken Michael.
