Barnstead School District Meeting starts at 9 a.m.

BARNSTEAD — The Barnstead School District Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, at 9 a.m. at the Barnstead Elementary gymnasium, and a total of 17 articles are listed. All articles are recommended by the school board and the budget committee unless noted otherwise.

However, Article 3 will be withdrawn because the issue involves the roof at Prospect Mountain High School, and the issue was already voted down in Alton. Additionally, Article 11 may also be withdrawn because the issue in Alton was reduced to a $1 appropriation. It was to raise and appropriate the sum of $22,490 to be added to the Improvement of Instruction Capital Reserve Fund.

Article 16 is for the budget and a total of $3,282,070.30 is the net amount for PMHS and the total budget for the district is $11,111,217.30.

Article 1 is to hear the reports of any agents and pass any vote relating to said reports and Article 2 sets the salaries of the school board and the compensation of any other officers.

Article 4 is to raise and appropriate $196,001 for the support of the Barnstead Elementary School Lunch Program.

Article 5 is to raise and appropriate $40,000 to establish a contingency fund for utilities at BES for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

Article 6 is to raise and appropriate $125,000 to be added to the Building Maintenance Fund, with no money from new taxation.

Article 7 is to approve the cost items included in the collective bargaining agreement reached between the school board and Barnstead Education Support Team. The following increases in salaries and benefits are included: $12,739 for the 2014-2015 school year, $28,964 for the 2015-2016 school year.

Article 8 is to hold a special district meeting if Article 7 fails to address cost items only.

Article 9 is to approve the cost items included in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Barnstead School Board and the Barnstead Education Association, which includes the following increases in salaries and benefits: $158,462 in 2014-2015, $58,835 in 2015-2016 and $69,025 in 2016-2017.

Article 10 is to hold a special district meeting if Article 9 fails to address cost items only.

Articles 12 through 15 will be matched by the same amount raised in Alton during its town election.

Article 12 is raise and appropriate $25,000 to be added to PMHS General Maintenance Capital Reserve Fund.

Article 13 is raise and appropriate $75,000 to be added to the PMHS General Maintenance Fund.

Article 14 is to raise $10,000 for the purpose of future athletic fields at PMHS.

Article 15 is to establish a contingency fund and raise and appropriate $33,053.22 to be added to said fund.

Article 17 is to hear any other business that comes before said meeting.

The Congregational Church of North Barnstead will be hosting a fundraising breakfast at the school starting at 8:30 a.m. (see page A8).
