Tax rates drop in local communities

REGION — The tax rate has been set for 2013 and for Alton, Barnstead and New Durham residents, the rate has gone down.

In Alton, the 2013 tax rate is $13.44 per thousand, which is $.24 lower than last year's rate or a 1.8 percent reduction. The breakdown of the rate is a town rate of $3.68, a local school rate of $5.86, a state school rate of $2.50 and a county rate of $1.40.

In Barnstead, the 2013 tax rate is $23.50 per thousand, which is a $.06 less than last year's rate or a reduction of less than one percent. The breakdown of the rate is a town rate of $5.24, a local school rate of $14.31, a state school rate of $2.63 and a county rate of $1.32.

In New Durham, the 2013 tax rate is $22.50 per thousand, which is $.46 less than last year's rate or a reduction of two percent. The breakdown or the tax rate is a town rate of $6.19, a local school rate of $11.20, a state school rate of $2.30 and a county rate of $2.68.
