Alton celebrates Old Home Day this weekend

ALTON — Alton Old Home Day is on Saturday, Aug. 11, and there are many events for people of all ages that will be held throughout the day.

The Old Home Day 5K Road Race will be held at 9 a.m., with a registration fee of $20. The event, co-sponsored by Meredith Village Savings Bank and the Alton Parks and Recreation Department, will start and finish in Alton Bay and features a USATF certified course. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female, first Alton male and female and top male and female finisher in each category and walking. Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the finish line can call 875-0109. All volunteers will receive a race shirt as a thank you.

A craft fair will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in Alton Bay and on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will feature handmade New England craft items including fine wood crafts, candles, fleece, stoneware pottery, maple syrup products, jewelry, fabrics, quilts, floral, doll furniture, photography, scroll saw fretwork, handmade soaps and more. Admission is free at Railroad Square Park and at the Alton Bay Community Center.

An antique boat show sponsored by the New Hampshire Antique and Classic Boat Museum will be held from 9 a.m. until noon in Alton Bay.

Bingo for all ages, sponsored by Meredith Village Savings Bank, will be held at 4 p.m. at the bandstand in Alton Bay with great prizes being awarded.

The Alton Fireman's Association will host its annual chicken barbeque from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Central Fire Station. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the fire station.

The Alton Business Association is organizing the parade for this year's Old Home Day with a theme of "Supporting Our Military Personnel."

The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m., and parade participants will begin lining up at 1:30 p.m. at School Street.

Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third prize entries in the parade.

Following the parade, the Lakes Region Chordsmen, a barbershop chorus, will be performing at the American Legion Post 72 function hall.

A concert by the Echo Tones will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the bandstand.

Old Home Day will end with fireworks in Alton Bay at 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 12, the Mike Burke co-ed volleyball tournament will be held at 9 a.m. at the Mike Burke Sand Volleyball Court.
