Board looking for help in creating school survey

July 11, 2012
ALTON — The Alton School Board is currently in the process of creating a town-wide survey concerning the potential renovation of Alton Central School. This survey will be created and analyzed under the direction of the UNH Survey Center.

The purpose of this survey is to get current, accurate information from Alton taxpayers about the direction of the school facilities. The results will then help to guide the board in making the best possible decisions for the future of the building project.

In order to maintain objectivity in the creation of the survey, a committee has been formed that comprises members from multiple constituencies in Alton, including the board of selectmen, the budget committee, the buildings and grounds committee, the board and the school administration. Having multiple and varied perspectives in this initial stage will ensure that all voices and perspectives are considered. Therefore, the board is asking that everyone has the opportunity to be a part of this process.

There are two ways to get involved. First, residents can think of what questions/information they would like to see the survey ask the taxpayers and e-mail them to Principal Sydney Leggett at sleggett@alton.k12.nh.us or call her at 875-0367. Second, residents can come to the next meeting with the survey committee and the UNH representatives on Thursday, July 19, at 6 p.m. in the Alton Central School Library. At this meeting, the public will have the opportunity to listen in and provide input for the development of the questions.

The board thanks the community in advance for its willingness to be a part of this important process, as community input is important to the current and future education of Alton's children.
